Guidelines: Marshall Cavendish Children’s Books
FOR REGULAR SUBMISSIONS: All submissions should be
sent to attn: Margery Cuyler, Publisher, Marshall Cavendish Children’s
Books, 99 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, NY 10591. We do not accept submissions
via email. For picture book submissions, authors should submit the entire
manuscript. For novels, authors should send in about three chapters (or up to 30
pages) and a synopsis or outline of the rest of the book. We always appreciate a
brief bio in your cover letter. Please keep in mind that we receive many
unsolicited manuscripts, and that
we
do read all manuscripts. For this reason, we will not send out a response
unless we’re interested in publication. Therefore, if an author has not
heard from us within eight to nine months of submitting a manuscript, it means
there is no interest. Authors may submit to other publishers
simultaneously.
SUBMISSIONS FOR MARSHALL CAVENDISH CLASSICS: Marshall
Cavendish Children’s Books is starting a new line of books called Marshall
Cavendish Classics that will be composed of out-of-print books worthy of being
brought back into print. We will be licensing books for this new line on a
royalty basis with no advances being paid. If you are an author with an out-of
print title that you would like considered for Marshall Cavendish Classics,
please let us know. Out-of-print books can be mailed to Margery Cuyler,
Publisher, Marshall Cavendish Children’s Books, 99 White Plains Road,
Tarrytown, NY 10591. Please include proof that the rights have reverted as well
as a self-addressed stamped envelope if you want the book returned. We welcome
picture books as well as novels for this line of books. Because we have to be
highly selective, we are looking for books that are recognizable by most
children’s media specialists. These are books that will have won awards,
received starred reviews, or that have authors or illustrators of some repute in
the children’s book field.
