About
the Book
Boys and girls enthusiastically warm up with
special exercises and drills. The players throw the ball back and forth, jog,
bat, catch, and pitch. Finally, the players divide up into two teams. The coach,
as umpire, makes calls as they catch pop flies, run the bases, and slide feet
first into home plate. Practice ends with the kids showing that teamwork makes
them better players. Powerful, mixed-media illustrations with dramatic, up-close
perspectives interpret the rhythmic text and capture the intensity and
exuberance of baseball practice.
