About
the Book
Effie dreamed of being a state-fair cow. She
loved living on the farm, grazing in the fields, and giving milk every day. But
still . . . she dreamed of being beautiful, of billowing blue ribbons and big,
bodacious barns. Petunia the pig gives Effie advice on how to become the most
beautiful cow and win a ribbon at the state fair. But what Petunia, the other
cows, and the judges learn is that no one can fix Effie! Illustrations rendered
in acrylic capture the humor and spirit of the story.
Growing up
LESLIE HELAKOSKI loved playing in
bodacious barns. Who knew they’d be the catalyst for so many stories.
Formerly a graphic designer, she has written several award-winning books with
(surprise!) barn animals, including
Big Chickens
,
illustrated by Henry Cole, and
Woolbur
,
illustrated by Lee Harper. Fair Cow is the first book that she has both written
and illustrated. She writes and paints in Michigan, where she lives with her
husband, children, and curly lapdog. Visit her online at:
