About the Book

From being a strong-willed little girl growing up in Chicago’s South Side to becoming
the first African-American First Lady, Michelle Obama succeeded because of self
discipline, hard work, and the support of a loving family. When she joined her husband
and daughters on their improbable journey to the White House, she was thrust onto the
national stage. Her husband was elected 44th president of the United States, and she
showed the world that she could take on the duties of First Lady and First Mom with
grace, intelligence, and style. Carole Boston Weatherford’s lyrical text and Robert T.
Barrett’s stunning illustrations rendered in oil on canvas are a stirring tribute to a
remarkable woman who worked hard and reached high.
