About the Book
In a rhythmic pattern similar to "The House That Jack Built," a mouse leads a wild chase through a town as the minutes tick by. From 6 o’clock a.m. to 7 o’clock a.m., various animals, a dogcatcher, a robber, and a policeman join the chase. Just before the hour is up, a slippery encounter with a pile of banana peels sends everyone home. Illustrated with action-packed, cut-paper illustrations, this book is an all-around delight at any hour of the day.

SUSAN STEVENS CRUMMEL’s collaborations with her sister, illustrator Janet Stevens, include the ALA Notable Books And the Dish Ran Away With the Spoon and the 2001 Texas Bluebonnet Award Winner Cook-a-Doodle Doo! She lives in Fort Worth, Texas.

DOROTHY DONOHUE’s colorful cut-paper artwork illuminates her previous books Veggie Soup, Big and Little on the Farm, and Frozen Noses. She and Susan Stevens Crummel also collaborated on City Dog, Country Dog. She lives in Boulder, Colorado.

All in One Hour

"A mouse leads a series of pursuers on a merry chase that lasts exactly one hour."
—Kirkus Reviews

" . . . Donohue’s jubilant 3-D images, spanning each oversize spread, are so big, detailed, and textured that they command interest. The orange tabby, for example, seems nearly to vibrate with its hundreds of tiny, tone-on-tone orange and yellow slivers of ‘fur,’ and the shaggy dog carries itself with an almost tangible weight. Set in multicolored type, the text chases its way around the perimeter of the illustrations, echoing the theme of pursuit."
—Publishers Weekly
