"Hildy the pig and her friend Moose
return in another adventure. Hildy’s cousin Vincent comes to visit and he
is such a know-it-all that none of the other animals want to be around him. He
claims to be an expert on every subject and talks so much that no one can get a
word in edgewise. After he mistakes poison ivy for clover, Moose and Hildy try
to cheer him up by having a party. When Vincent drives the guests outdoors with
his boring show-off antics, Moose helps him find a way to get the gathering
hopping and ultimately teaches him what it means to be a friend. This beginning
chapter book is full of gentle humor. The pencil-and-gray-wash illustrations
work well with the story. The scenes are filled with action and the
characters’ faces are expressive. A solid choice for newly independent
readers, this book will please fans of the series and win new
devotees.
