About the Series
Women leaders of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries have used their power to influence the course of major political events and have spearheaded social change on an international scale. Some of these women were elected to public office and others were appointed to key positions in government or served in the private sector. Yet before their achievements were realized, all had personal struggles and cultural biases to overcome.

Leading Women celebrates the impact that women in leadership roles have made across cultures and decades, from the tireless efforts of Golda Meir in the formation of the state of Israel, beginning in the 1930s; the fanatical followings of Eva Perón in 1950s Argentina and Benazir Bhutto in 1980s Pakistan; to the "18 million cracks" in the glass ceiling claimed by presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (now secretary of state) during the 2008 U.S. national election. Each book examines the subject’s childhood, education, and how she was influenced by family, teachers, and friends. Sidebars throughout the texts emphasize the historical events that shaped each leader’s life and times.
