"These books are more basic than most offerings on the subject, combining rebuses with repetitive, simple texts. One short sentence per spread is accompanied by a full-page photo. The pictures show men and women from various cultural backgrounds performing tasks associated with the job. Prereading skills can be reinforced if children are encouraged to follow along and help "read" with the assistance of the rebuses. The final pages have "Words to Know" and a "Find Out More" section of books, videos, and Web sites that may be of interest to parents and teachers. These books are just the right size for little hands and short and colorful enough to appeal to the minimal attention spans of young children."
