About the Series
Sometimes the personal stories behind famous writers can be as compelling as the works they pen. This new series introduces the life and writings of authors whose works forever changed the time period in which they lived, and whose writing continues to be a dynamic part of the literary landscape. Each book in the series contains a comprehensive list of the author’s works, while highlighting and analyzing the writings most often discussed in high schools. From F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby to Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, an in-depth analysis of the writings and the historical time period in which they were written, along with the writers’ biographies and critical commentaries of the past and present, provide the reader with a unique look into the worlds of these cultural icons and the writings we have come to regard as "timeless."

Writers and Their Works

Series
[Stephen King]
"It’s not just that Stephen King writes dark material—it’s that he writes so much of it. The wildly prolific master of the macabre is given intelligent, judicious scrutiny in this delightfully thorough volume from the Today’s Writers and Their Works series."
Booklist Online, Review of the Day, STARRED REVIEW

[Isabel Allende. Amy Tan. Haruki Murakami. Bill Bryson. Stephen King]
"The texts are organized well, lending themselves to be read in their entirety or used as needed for research, and include full-color photos and illustrations."
School Library Journal, May 2011

[Isabel Allende. Amy Tan. Haruki Murakami. Bill Bryson. Stephen King]
"All of the biographies include information on the writer’s story, an examination of their most popular works, and insights into how their skills developed."
Library Media Connection, May-June 2011

[Melville, Salinger, Hughes]
"What is so helpful about these books is that the authors have focused on novice researchers who usually need an idea of how to organize analytical research about a writer.... Useful titles for circulation or for reference collections."
School Library Journal, February 2008

[Langston Hughes]
"Both scholarly and highly accessible, this in-depth literary biography of landmark writer Hughes discusses his life, times, and lasting significance and then analyzes his individual works in considerable detail. Part of the Writers and their Works series, the book benefits from an uncluttered design, visuals that often fill an entire page, and the inclusion of several of the great poems in their entirety."
Booklist, February 1, 2008

*"This series is sure to be a hit both for author biographies and for curriculums that include an analysis of an author’s works, and will be a vital addition to the library collection. Both upper and middle schools and high school library media center collections will benefit from these fine titles. Highly Recommended."
*STARRED REVIEW— Library Media Connection, October 2006

[Miller, Morrison, Fitzgerald]
"These attractive, well-organized books fill a gap in literary criticism for intermediate readers. Heavily illustrated with color and black-and-white photographs, they will appeal to students who might be intimidated by longer or more scholarly titles."
School Library Journal, March 2006
